U Visa: Protection for Victims of Crimes

The U Visa provides immigration relief to victims of certain crimes who have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse and are willing to assist law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution.

What is the U Visa?

The U Visa is a nonimmigrant visa that helps protect victims of crimes committed in the U.S. or that violated U.S. laws. It is designed to strengthen the ability of law enforcement to investigate and prosecute crimes while offering protection to victims.

  2. Have suffered substantial physical or mental abuse as a result of the crime.

  3. Possess information about the criminal activity.

  4. Have been, are, or are likely to be helpful in the investigation or prosecution of the crime.
